Multiculturalism and Education in 2024
To celebrate the launch of our new titles Multiculturalism and Education 3e and Evolving Dialogues in Multicultural Education, author and editor Richard Race and our panel of leading educationalists discussed their research around the theme of multiculturalism and education.
Through this discussion they reflected on why issues around cultural diversity remain very much alive and visible in this and other social spaces – looking at topics such as decolonising the curriculum, the ins and outs of ‘Fundamental British Values’ and the Prevent duty, and how transformative pedagogy is pivotal to making ongoing progress in this area.
Taking an international focus, with a comparative look at educational policies within the UK and the need to move beyond the ‘national’ to
the ‘international’ in relation to what is taught to our children in schools, colleges and universities, the expert panel looked at what’s next for multiculturalism in education. How can we ensure that this most crucial of topics is integrated into both policy-making and professional practice? What are the most important areas of focus, and how do we ensure that the dialogue is cascade throughout the teaching profession?
