The greater availability of credit in higher education is closely tied to policies of widening access and this event will address current issues including the consequences of Brexit, standards in higher education and the management of mobile student learning. 

Join us for a live panel discussion where Wayne Turnbull and Harvey Woolf, authors of new book Widening Access to Higher Education in the UK, and invited guest speakers will explore some of the key themes around the role of credit in widening participation in Higher Education in the UK and beyond.

Meet the speakers

Harvey Woolf: Honorary Research Fellow, University of Wolverhampton, UK

Harvey was Head of Academic Standards at the University of Wolverhampton, where he also taught History.  He has researched and written on modularity, external examiners, assessment in workplace and reflective learning, and academic regulations.

Dr Anne Danby: Course Director, College of Science and Engineering, University of Derby, UK

Anne has navigated an eclectic career in quality, regulation, course design and teaching at (post-92) universities committed to widening participation and social mobility. She is also a farmer, beekeeper, ecological consultant and globe trotter with particular interest in African forestry projects.

Professor Volker Gehmlich: Teacher in Business Management, Osnabrueck University of Applied Sciences, Germany

Volker is involved at an institutional level with the development and management of innovative study programmes. He has international experience of the development and implementation of University-Enterprise Training Partnerships; University Co-operation; European Credit Accumulation and Transfer System; and European, national, sectoral and institutional qualifications frameworks.

James Keevy: Chief Executive Officer, JET Education Services, South Africa

James is an experienced policy researcher that has worked in South Africa, Africa and internationally for the last 25 years. His specific areas of expertise include qualifications, the recognition of learning, digitalisation, and the professionalisation and migration of teachers.

Clare Dunn: Senior Manager, Recognition of Prior Learning, Open University, UK

Clare is passionate about widening access to higher education and promotes RPL as a mechanism to achieve this. For almost 14 years Clare delivered higher education qualifications within Further Education Colleges and supported students in their transition to Higher level study.

Dr Bob Morgan: Visiting Professor, Nurtingen University, Germany

Bob was a lecturer in international business/economics and is currently a consultant in the construction of international university networks. He has published widely on the Welsh economy and taught in number of European and American universities.

Dr Rosemary Moreland: Senior Lecturer/Community Development Subject Lead, Ulster University, UK

Rosemary has been involved in teaching and researching adult and community education since 1989 at Ulster University. She previously held the role of Access Partnership Manager for Social Sciences at Ulster University and is currently Chief Editor of the Adult Learner Journal.

Maeve Paris: Senior Lecturer and Partnership Manager, Ulster University, UK

Maeve is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, and Partnership Manager for Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment. She supports regional HE in Further Education partners in the delivery of high quality validated provision to around 1,500 students enrolled on Foundation degrees and Access to HE Diplomas across Northern Ireland.
